Studio City Hardwood Floor Installation | End Grain Douglas Fir + WOCA Oil

One of the many benefits of working in Los Angeles, is that we’re fortunate enough to work on some pretty special projects and this one was no exception! The original owners of this 1939 mid-century home were none other than Mary and Lee Blair, whose whimsical artwork has enchanted generations of Disney fans.

The new homeowners wanted something different and durable, which would also complement the home’s stunning Harwell Hamilton Harris architecture, so we introduced a Douglas Fir end grain as a possible option. After seeing samples, our clients chose to use the material throughout the main living space.

Wood Floor Installation

Before the installation, we sanded and screwed down the existing wood floor to provide a flat, secure surface for the sub-floor. Once that was prepped, approximately 800 sq/ft of the end grain floors were installed with the glue-down method.

Sanding and Refinishing

After installation, the floors were sanded with planetary sanders to blend all the multidirectional grain without leaving sanding marks. Then we finished on site using WOCA Oil, per the flooring manufacturer’s recommendation. After a meticulous sanding process and application of the WOCA Oil, the end result of this special and historic Studio City hardwood floor installation and refinishing project is absolutely gorgeous.
