Hollywood Hills Hardwood Floor Refinishing | Wide-Plank Walnut + Rubio Monocoat
This beautiful walnut hardwood floor refinishing and installation project was in a local Hollywood Hills residence. Approximately 2,300 sq/ft of premium 7" engineered select-grade, no-sap walnut flooring was laid, sanded, and finished with our preferred hardwax oil system, Rubio Monocoat Oil Plus 2C in the Pure color.
This Hollywood Hills hardwood floor refinishing + installation project needed quite a bit of preparation because of the concrete slab foundation. We needed to grind the slab flat to get a level surface for the installation. Once that was finished, we applied two coats of moisture barrier to protect against any potential moisture issues. Lastly, we installed 3/4" CDX plywood as the subfloor system for the walnut flooring.
Wood Floor Installation
Once the subfloor preparation was complete, we installed the 7" engineered select-grade walnut flooring on top. The client fell in love with the grain patterns and rich, natural coloring of this wide-plank, no-sap walnut. We installed it using a glue-down and nail installation method throughout the 2,300-square-foot space. Combining both methods ensures minimal movement. The engineered flooring also provides superior stability—especially compared to solid wood—which makes it a great choice for installing over concrete slabs.
Sanding and Refinishing
After installation, we started sanding and refinishing the wood flooring. Once that was finished, we applied two coats of Rubio Monocoat Pure. As you can see, this hardwax oil finish enhances the natural beauty of the walnut and provides excellent protection against daily wear. Unlike traditional polyurethane surface finishes, Rubio Monocoat allows for easy spot repairs and maintenance, making it perfect for busy Hollywood Hills households.
