Welcome to CMC Hardwood Floors. We specialize in transforming old, worn out hardwood floors in Los Angeles into beautiful, unique, stunning floors you'll be proud to show off in your home.

We understand your hardwood floor refinishing or wood floor installation project is a significant investment. You no doubt have lots of questions. Hopefully, you'll find our site very informative as you research your next steps.

Here are the most common questions we are asked. There are 3 helpful PDF guides on that page too. They go deep into some important decisions you'll need to make... and help you avoid some common pitfalls.

If you have a question about your hardwood floors we haven't covered, please don’t hesitate to give us a call. (Ask to speak with Marcos. That's me in the photo below.) We’re here to help. We love wood floors. We want you to love your wood floors too – and enjoy the process of transforming them.

TO START WITH: Take a look at the 6 reasons below why we’re unique from the average Los Angeles hardwood flooring business...

REASON 1We are experts
in hardwood flooring

The flooring industry is huge. Carpet, laminate, ceramic, tile, vinyl and hardwood floors all make up part of it... but they require vastly different skills. Many flooring businesses provide all of these. But through experience, we have found you can't be the best at everything.

We specialize in wood flooring. One thing only.

We are experts in installing and refinishing new hardwood floors... as well as restoring existing flooring. Because that's all we do, every single day, we're really good at it. Your floors will be in good hands.

REASON 2A single person
to communicate with at all times

Miscommunication during a renovation project is extremely frustrating. When dealing with many different people – salespeople, managers, crew members, sub-contractors – things can get missed.

When you team up with us for your Los Angeles hardwood floor refinishing project, that won’t happen. It will be me at your in-home quote. I will be working on your wood floors with my team throughout your project... and I will be the one making sure everything is perfect at the end of your project.

One single person to communicate with during the entire hardwood floor installation and refinishing process, to ensure you get exactly what you want - stress free.

REASON 3No huge
dusty mess to clean up

Traditional hardwood floor sanding and refinishing leaves a big dusty mess. It gets into everything. It's a nightmare to clean up. You don't want toxic dust all throughout your home.

We've found the perfect solution so you don't have to deal with this hassle. Take a look at how we eliminate the dust issue here.

REASON 4We are fully licensed and insured

We have our California Contractors License, full Liability Insurance coverage, up-to-date Workers Compensation coverage and are bonded. If, in the unlikely chance an accident occurs in your home or anything goes wrong on the project, you will be looked after.

You can read more about our coverage here.

REASON 5Only the best
quality products
are used

The type and quality of finish and products used will directly affect your wood floors durability and long-term wear. I’m sure you don’t want your wood floor looking old and worn after just a few years. We don't want that for you either. That's why we only use the best quality finishes available.

All our finishes are only recommended after thorough in-house testing and experimenting for durability, looks and ease of maintenence.

We stay very up-to-date with the industry, so if you find a finish online you like the sound of, there’s a very good chance we’ve already tested it and can give you real life feedback.

REASON 6We have dozens
of genuine
5 Star reviews

Its important to check if a business is professional, trustworthy, dependable and reliable.

Over the years we have been blessed to work with many wonderful people on some amazing hardwood floor projects here in the Los Angeles area - including projects like the Gagosian Gallery in Beverly Hills. Many have shared their experience on sites like Google, Yelp, Facebook and Houzz. All are genuine and not paid for.

Our aim is to be the best hardwood flooring business in Los Angeles, and we're very proud of our glowing reviews that speak for themselves.

A couple of things to be aware of with your flooring project...

Like all construction and home improvement industries, there is quite a large variance in the quality of work and price between Los Angeles hardwood flooring businesses.

There are 2 things in particular to be wary of when looking to hire someone to install or refinish your hardwood floors...

Cheap sanding job ruined floor
Cheap floor sanding job

Unfortunate results from a budget priced, unskilled floor guy.

1. Shortcuts Taken with Labor.

The biggest factor in the cost to install and refinish hardwood floors in Los Angeles is time and labor. As you can imagine, it's a very labor-intensive process. A certain amount of man hours is needed to prep, install, sand and refinish wood floors to a high standard. That can't be changed. If a budget flooring business comes in with a super cheap price (compared to other established businesses), most likely there are shortcuts being taken.

Some of the more common shortcuts are as follows:

Poor subfloor preparation. Not securing and flattening the sub-floor properly will leave your floor uneven and prone to movement and squeaks. This is the most important part of your project. But because it's hidden, lots of shortcuts can be taken if time is short.

Rushing through repairs. Good repairs take time. Especially sub floor repairs. Wood floor repairs need matching material. One of the biggest repair mistakes we see is using red oak instead of white oak or vice-versa. Or mixing up Oak, Maple, Douglas Fir, Brazilian Cherry for other types of woods is common. This makes them stand out like a sore thumb and not blend in properly.

Bad repair
Badly matched repair

Two examples of rushed, badly repaired floors.

Skipping over sanding grits. This saves a lot of time (and money in sandpaper), but it results in a rougher floor with more visible sanding marks and scratches.

Not taking the time to handscrape properly. Corners, under radiators, edges around walls, kitchen cupboards, baseboards and door trim need a lot of extra attention to be handscraped properly. This is a big one we see here in Los Angeles. Shortcuts in this step leaves a cheap, unprofessional, unfinished look.

Not using planetary sanders. Again, a HUGE time and sandpaper saver. But you're left with a floor far less flat, smooth and visually appealing. In the worse case scenario, you will have extensive dish out visible.

Bad repair
Badly matched repair

Example of a dished out floor vs a completely flat floor sanded with a planetary sander.

Not offering dust containment. Not having an industrial grade vacuum system attached to your sanding equipment leaves a lot of dust in the air. These units are an expensive investment. But without one, you have dust everywhere. Dust lands in the finish, leaving a rough surface, and there's a huge mess to clean up at the end of the project.

As you can see, there are a lot of places to cut corners. This is just a small list.

You can't just skip steps and still get a professional result. Imagine every time you look down at your floor, you're reminded of shortcuts taken because of budget workmanship.

We don't want you to have to experience that. I'm sure you don't either.

2. Using Low Quality Products.

There are a lot of products used in the installation, sanding and refinishing process. Each of them is critical to the overall durability and performance of your wood floor.

If a cheap moisture barrier is used, it will not perform well. Your floor could be severely damaged from moisture issues and cup or warp.

If cheap, low-quality adhesive or fasteners are used, your floor could be prone to movement, squeaks and boards coming loose. Or a total floor failure.

The finish system used will have a huge effect on the durability of your wood floors as well. Cheap products will scratch easier, wear out quicker, not hold up to spills as well, and yellow, age and fade faster.

Ask about the quality of the products being used. Be wary of industry tricks like promising to apply a quality high-end finish but swapping the base coats out for cheap finish. Then only using the professional brand on the last coat.

Please take a bit of time and educate yourself.

HAPPY CLIENT feedback

We just had our home completely renovated from top to bottom and used nearly every building trade out there. We worked with dozens of contractors. Marcos and his crew were BY FAR our favorites. Marcos is a good person, great communicator, 100% reliable, fairly priced and does awesome quality work. I wish they were all like him but not many are. The floors are exactly what we wanted. We absolutely love them. Riley R. - Los Angeles, CA | 5 Star Review on Yelp

HAPPY CLIENT feedback

We left Marcos and his crew with our house for 4 days while we went camping. We returned to our home and is was amazing!! Usually, we wouldn't leave our home vacant with a contractor we didn't know. But when you meet Marcos, you'll realize he is the utmost of honesty and integrity. His words speak it, but his actions prove it. Our BIGGEST REGRET.... We didn't have it done last year. They turned out BEAUTIFUL!!!! Matt L. - Simi Valley, Los Angeles, CA | 5 Star Review on Yelp
